By 1948, Hornet II had enjoyed a long and successful racing career. While he was working on two new hydroplane racing boats for the next racing season, Henry J. Kaiser Sr. took Hornet II, now renamed Fleur du Lac, to Washington D. C. for one last major racing event, The President's Cup. Shown in this photograph speeding across the tidal basin is Fleur du Lac driven by Henry Kaiser (in a business suit), with famous bandleader Guy Lombardo (who would drive the boat in the race) in the right front seat, and Edgar F. Kaiser in the back seat.
