The 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley

After a highly improbable selection over both European and United States host location candidates, the very rustic ski area known as "Squaw Valley" faced almost impossible odds to literally build an Olympic-quality site from nothing. You can read the engaging story of how little Squaw Valley managed to pull off this amazing feat on the website that accompanies our book. We were able to acquire an original official program from the Games, chock full of interesting stories, photographs, and advertisements. Scans of all 100 plus pages are also available on the book website.

The 1960 Games featured many innovations in how the Games were organized, managed, and televised. And perhaps most importantly, the Games featured the "First Miracle on Ice" !
